Food & Wine Tour of the Cape Region

Day 1
On arrival
Talana Tours will transfer you to Lionskloof Lodge where you will have time to
freshen up before we embark on an orientation tour of the Mother City. The
tour itself takes in the classic sites and buildings of Cape Town since
its establishment in 1652, which in South African terms is a long time.
The tour includes The Castle of Good Hope, the Parliament Buildings,
Company Gardens, the Anglican church made famous by Bishop Tutu as well as
the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. We return to our accommodation once
again to freshen up before visiting the Five Flies Restaurant, in down
town Cape Town, for dinner.

Day 2 Probably the most popular of all our day
tours and has something for everyone indomitable mountains, sea-slashed
coastlines and wide expansive beaches are only some of the delights
experienced. We start off with a leisurely walk in Kirstenbosch Botanical
Gardens. Our next stop will be Boulders Beach, famous for its Jackass
Penguins. At the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where we ride the
funicular to the scenic viewpoint enjoying unprecedented views of False
Bay. We continue along through to Noordhoek and Scarborough stopping for
lunch. After lunch we will visit the Wine Cellar of Steenberg for a cellar
tour and wine tasting. Dinner will be at the Cape Malay Kitchen, on the
beautiful grounds of the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel, a 5 Star Relais &
Chateaux establishment. Overnight: Lionskloof Lodge Meals:

Day 3 After breakfast we
will make our way to Blouberg strand for an unequalled photo opportunity
of Cape Town. Next stop will be Durbanville Hills, a cellar, which
epitomizes a new cool in South African wine. The wines are exported to 13
different countries high-quality wine in n large volumes is the mission.
Lunch will be at the nearby Bloemendal Wine Estate, with cuisine to
suit every taste; situated in the northern suburbs it enjoys spectacular
views. After Lunch we will make our way back to Cape Town. Weather
permitting a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain from where you
can enjoy magnificent views of the City. Dinner will be in the V&A
Waterfront at the Fashionable Morton's on the Wharf

Day 4 Departing Cape Town, our first stop
is Paarl, steeped in history and a veritable treasure house of
Architecture and it also boasts quality wines. Our first stop is the up
and coming Kaapzicht estate whose Pinotage is up with the best of them.
Next we visit the Fairview Wine Estate, famous for its quality wine and
goat cheese. We continue on to the Nederburg wine estate for a wine
tasting and cellar tour. Home to the famous Nederburg wine auctions, this
estates sets standards which others follow. After the tour we visit the
Taal Monument, which enjoys sweeping views of this the Paarl Valley. We
enjoy lunch at the internationally acclaimed Bosman's Grand Roche
restaurant serving global cuisine in the Old World atmosphere of a Cape
Dutch manor house. Next stop is Stellenbosch founded in 1679 this town has
retained much of its character and is best experienced on foot. After our
walking tour we continue to our lodge on Eikendal wine estate where we
will overnight. An evening at leisure, Stellenbosch has some wonderful
restaurants all within walking distance of the hotel. Overnight:

Day
5 After breakfast we make our way to Franchhoek (French Corner),
which was settled more than three centuries ago by French Huguenots
escaping religious persecution. The area soon developed into a thriving
community of vineyards and fruit orchids. Our tour take us through the
town, its Museum - dedicated to its first inhabitants, and a photo stop at
the top of the Franchhoek pass - which overlooks the charming village. On
route we will stop at the wine estate of Kanu wine maker Teddy Hall is
know as the Chenin King, who's adamant that it is the grape of the future.
On to Franchhoek and the Cabriere Estate, hundreds, perhaps thousands of
visitors have succumbed to the delights of this most atmospheric
Franchhoek winery, where the pleasure principal includes the Champagne
style apritif Petit Pierre Ratafia and fin de Jourdan potstill brandy.
This estate flagship wine is the Pinot Noir, which standouts in the South
African Context. Lunch will be the Heerlickheid restaurant the chef
Camil Haas will tempt you with his European-African cuisine. After Lunch
we have a chance to look around the Town, before we make our way back to
Stellenbosch. Supper will be at the Wijnhuis is within walking distance of
our hotel, this restaurant boasts an impressive selection of wines from
the area. Overnight: Eikendal Lodge Meals: Breakfast Lunch and
Supper.
Day 6 We make our way to the House of JC Le
Roux. If Cap Classique is South African for champagne, then perhaps this
estate is South Africa's answer to Louis Roederer. We enjoy breakfast here
followed by a tour and tasting! Next stop Jordan Winery this estate has
everyone talking, unprecedented award winning wines its World class
Chardonnay, Sauvignon and up and coming Chenin, but the reds are in hot
pursuit. Cobbler's hill a blend of mixture of Cab, Merlot and Cab Fr was
the first South African Wine to win an award (Grand Gold Medal) at the
Concours Mondial in Brussels (in 2002). Next stop is a light Lunch at the
Spier Wine Estate; we enjoy a light lunch at the Taphuis Grill. This
Estate offers the Visitor things to see and do, and we have a bit of time
after lunch to walk around and enjoy the surroundings. Last but not least
for the day will be a visit to the Rust en Vrede Estate this farm founded
in 1694, and boasts superb Cape Dutch Architecture. This estate is owned
by ex Springbok rugby player Jannie Englebrecht its Estate blend (which is
a blend dominated by Cab 71% Shiraz and Merlot) is the only South African
Wine rated by the American magazine Wine Spectator as one of its top 100
wines world wide. Back to our guesthouse Eikendal where we overnight.
After an eventful day we have some time to relax, before we make our way
to the Oude Libertas Restaurant prepare for an eating experience that will
excite the palate Overnight: Rusthof Lodge Meals: Breakfast and
Lunch and Dinner
Day 7 We continue on the R62-one of
the world longest wine routes. Our destination is Montagu the mountain
Meccaé“” of the Western Cape, is also an important fruit growing and
Vineyard area, renowned for sugary sweetness and balmy bouquet. On Route
we visit the Bon Courage estate this family estate on the Breede River is
a well-run operation. The Bruwers are enthusiastic makers of sparkling
wine add port and some great muscatels it all adds to a worthwhile
visit! Next stop in this Robertson valley aptly named the valley of
wine and roses is the Zandvliet estate this estate Flagship wines come
mainly in the Shiraz variety, as do many of the wines in the valley. We
enjoy a picnic on the estate before we move onto the Town of Montagu where
we will overnight. Rest of the day is free to look around the town, or go
for a walk. Dinner will be enjoyed at the Hotel. Overnight: Montagu
Country Inn Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.
Day
8 We depart for the picturesque village of Tulbagh, famous for its
heritage of Cape Dutch and Victorian architecture. These houses were
severely damaged in an earthquake in 1969, which resulted in the
restoration of 32 buildings to their original design. We will have time to
visit the museums and antique shops. Lunch will be at the Paddagang
Restaurant and wine House in Tulbagh. We stop at Twee Jonge Gezellen
Estate, to taste the award winning Cap Classic Sparkling. Tea is in the
restaurant Krone Borealis, housed in an underground cellar, where one can
still enjoy the age-old tradition of sabraging. We overnight in
the Witzenberg country Inn. Meals: Breakfast and
Dinner.
Day 9 Breakfast at the guesthouse before we
make our way to the West Coast National Park, an exquisite lagoon and
ornithologist's paradise. Lunch will be at the Groote Post Wine Estate
where third and fourth generation dairymen, Peter and Nicholas Pentz, are
hoping that, like cream, their Groote Post wines will rise to the top.
Lunch will be at the estate in the form of a picnic. We then make our way
back to Cape Town, with a stop in Blouberg for an unequalled photo
opportunity of Cape Town. It's the end of our eventful tour, we drop you
off at the airport to catch your connecting flight home, and alternatively
you spend another night in Cape Town to continue the tour on the
additional Packages
